This month's TINO session will be focused on disabilities in VET (particularly how they affect the classroom) and will be presented by the Diversity @ Work team.

Disability can sometimes be a tricky subject to talk about, but this session aims to demystify the issue and provide a forum in which you can ask those questions you haven't wanted to ask anyone else about!

Diversity @ Work are part of Aegis Aspire, who work with businesses to support them to be 'diversity friendly'. Diversity @ Work runs Nationally Accredited training programs specifically for people with a disability and also consult to a wide range of business about diversity and inclusion issues.

Your presenter for February, Gillian Baldwin, is an experienced trainer from the Diversity @ Work team and will work through the practical aspects of learners with a disability in the classroom.

We will cover topics such as...

• The impacts of different disability types - Vision impairment, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and Physical Disabilities
• How having English as a second language (ESL) affects the classroom (and is it a disability?)
• Some practical approaches to assisting your learners with a disability in the day to day routine of managing the classroom
• What resources are out there that you can tap into to assist you?

The session promises to be interactive and fun, with a high amount of open discussion. Gillian will share several case studies from her experiences of disability.
